First Day of School!
Adelyn woke up bright and early with great anticipation for her first day in preschool. The day began with a hearty bowl of oatmeal as mom fixed her hair. She was all ready to go by 8am, and played patiently in her room with her barbies until it was time to go. Abigail, on the other hand, would have slept through the grand event if we didn't have to wake her up to go :) When we arrived at her new school, Adelyn literally jumped out of the car so fast that she left her back pack behind. The helper grabbed it for her, and she was headed into school with a smile. As we drove off, Abby looked over at Adelyn's carseat and said, "No...No." It was so sweet! After completing 4 errands with Abby (wow, how much easier it is loading and unloading one child verses two), we picked up our little preschooler. While I am not sure if she said one word to any of the other kids, she told me she painted a picture, ate a yummy snack, played outside and sang songs. She said it was a great day and asked when her next day of school would be. We can't believe how fast our little girl is growing up! It's amazing.

Summer Get-A-Ways to the Red Ranch
Many trips to Merrifield this summer for much needed rest and relaxation at the Bye/Boegemann cabin. Despite the strange coincidence that the girls were sick probably about 75% of the times we vacationed there, we had a blast! Cherished memories included: the fourth of July, tree ceremonies (2 this year!), pontoon rides with snacks, "visiting" great grandma and grandpa's cabin, painting pine cones, playing in the tree house, cartoons and movies, jumping off the dock, and many more.

The "Wallace" Cabin: Summer 2010
Summer came...and summer went...but not without several great trips to the Wallace Cabin on good old Lake Alice.
Highlights of the summer included hanging out at the campfire, roasting marshmallows, swimming to the "swimming dock" (both Adelyn and Abigail for the first time), golf cart rides with grandma, aunties, uncles and cousins, collecting rocks for the shore (Derek loved this:), horse shoes with grandpa, bean bag toss, and fishing off the dock with the kids.
Thank you Grandma Margaret and Grandpa Bill for the wonderful trips to the cabin this year.
Many memories are made here, and the girls are already looking forward to next summer at the cabin !

A rough week...
It's not really appropriate to start each blog with, "It's been awhile, ...." But such is life around these parts.
There is a saying, "When it rains it pours;" that couldn't be more true this week for the Bye Family. So, where do I begin? To be quite honest it's hard to even remember where to start.
Monday: Cant even remember it.
Tuesday: We had multiple members from the class of 2000 over to suare. That's right ladies and gentlemen, it was our 10 year anniversary. We stayed up too late for a work night...but had great times and stories to share the next morning. The lack of sleep was a foreshadowing of the week to come, however.
Wednesday: Adelyn slices her eyeball/cornea on a sharp piece of plastic as she dodges a spider while playing at her grandmothers. She is taken to the ER. Possibly some more foreshadowing here. It is actually a pretty scary day, as Adelyn is forced to wear a large eye patch and is enduring tremendous pain. Mom has to head to work that night for the first of her many nights to come (5 of next six!). Dad has to administer codeine and eye drops. Lots of tears (from Adi and daddy).
Thurday: Adelyn's eye is actually feeling better. Yeah! She even took her eye patch off mid-day. Seemingly great start to the day. On the afternoon, we attend the funeral of a friend's daughter who bravely endured a heart defect for 14 months....super awful and heart wrenching to say the least. That evening, dad has a fantasy football draft with the boys in the Bye basement. Many familiar faces show up and loud laughter and good times ensue. Mom spends the night with the girls playing and appreciating life before putting the precious girlies to bed happy and well. Last of the hooligans depart just before midnight. Derek remembers he has a triathlon (his first) to compete in on Saturday. We crawl into bed, hoping for a good Friday for both of us. Before our heads hit the pillow, we hear Abigail choking. Cathy rushes in to find Abigail having a seizure on her back and choking on her own vomit. Ambulence arrives, neighbors out on the lawn, we head to the ER once again. She had a fever of 104 degrees which sparked the "febrile seizure" but it's unknown what was the cause. Tests hinted of something viral...we arrive home around 3:00am. Head hits pillow - light's out.
Friday: No one goes to work. Mental Health Day for eveyone! Adelyn goes in for a follow-up on her eye. It is basically healed and we thank God for health and vision. Abigail starts out the day a bit slow but by mid-day is her typical firecracker self and we soak in her jubilance. Kids are so resilient. Evening sets in and Derek fears for his life as he realizes the triathlon cannot be avoided.
Saturday: 5:30am wake-up call for triathlon. Ouch, very ouch. Derek arrives in beautiful Hudson (WI) to a blazing 48 degrees temp. He plunges into the St Croix river at 7:39am and the rest is history. While the conditions and circumstances leading up to the event are far from ideal, Derek completes the race. He thanks the good Lord for getting him through it and for the health of his family....but NOT for his finshing time :) The good news is, the bar is set low and there are many more opportunities to shatter his personal best. A few pics are snapped and the Byes head home for much needed naps!
Sunday and Monday: Healthiness, happiness, and mommy working. Tired all around, but thankfull for our health! Cathy completes her long 5 of 6 day stretch. Dad waits up to say thanks to mom for her hard work. They both collapse into bed!
Tuesday??? We are hoping that the rain is over.

Adelyn turns 3!
Summer is here and that means cabin time for the Bye Family. When mama Cath is not at the hostpital, we plan to be applying the SPF 50 and laying on the docks of Lake Alice and North Long. We've got a 10 day cabin excursion planned surrounding the 4th, and once again the pyrotechnics license talks will resume per usual.
Since the last post, both our little girls had birthdays! Abigail turned one on May 5th and Adelyn turned 3 on June 7th. Both were celebrated with family, friends, and good conversation. Adelyn had her first official birthday "party" and invited all the neighborhood girls. Mom did a wonderful job organizing games, contests, prizes and keeping general sanity levels in check amongst the masses.
We hope to keep the blog updated more regularly, but dont hold your breath. Enjoy the pics!
